Hippeastrum x johnsonii is often referred to as the Cold Hardy Amaryllis because it can handle zone 6 winters if mulched up a bit. The plant grows long leaves that are 1 to almost 2 feet long and about 1 inch to 1/2 inch wide. The flowers are large with white with red stripes growin to 4 to 6 inches across. As the plant grows, it will produce side bulbs and flower multiple flowers in one clump. I have over wintered this plant for 10 years in Kentucky by just mulching 4 to 6 inches over top in winter months.
Plants are sold in 4 to 4 1/2 inch pots.
