Eucomis Dark Star is a nice new hybrid from Terra Nova Nurseries. Plants grow around 1 foot tall and flower late summer. As they emerge in spring with dark black leaves and fade to a maroon speckled leaf with age. Here in Kentucky I find them hardy if well protected with some chopped up leaf insulation in winter. Eucomis Dark star does great with yellow to bright leaf plants such as Colocasia Red Eyed Gecko and Canna Lemon punch. Can also look great with Eucomis glow stick.
